Only 9% away from my first $500 contribution as part of the pledge..... this forum is so slow.... I thought that by today noon I have to shell out $500...but doesn't looks the case...
Oh I forgot ! This forum is used to slow processing ...let it be GC or Contribution..... doesn't surprises me..... Our fraternity is used to slow things just like GC .... come guys /gals ..... show some speed....
Finally i think we may reach 50%.... I swear as soon as somebody confirms me that we have reached $29,500 figure I will put $500 and another $500 when we reach $59,500.....
Keep it going guys ... I am bit positive for the halfway mark..... but don't think that the full way mark Miracle will happen.....

I would suggest not to go to COPS, if those folks are working any where else just call immigration authorities and report anonymously that they are working in USA illegally.
What have you been smoking lately?

He is better off now rather than getting into trouble later.

Hi longq,
Not sure why you are still fighting this. I am sure law-makers are aware of the way USCIS implements the law and they don't seem to have any objections.
From the 2006 "CRS Report for Congress" on "U.S. Immigration Policy on Permanent Admissions"
Prior to FY2001, employment-based preference immigrants were also held to percountry ceilings. The American Competitiveness in the Twenty-First Century Act of 2000 (P.L. 106-313) enabled the per-country ceilings for employment-based immigrants to be surpassed for individual countries that are oversubscribed as long as visas are available within the worldwide limit for employment-based preferences.
It might actually be counterproductive as you might inflect negative sentiments against increasing overall EB-immigration level demanding improportional increase for 'top immigrant-sending countries'.
As the State Department describes, the per-country level is not an entitlement but a barrier against monopolization.
Please try to read law carefully. The law will not have simple terms as you think. They have to draft the law in the language of the act. Any way the meaning is same.
The law explicitly say that the 7% country limit does not apply to the EB1, EB2, EB3, EB4, EB5 catagories, if excess visas available in those catagories.
Exactly, but because EB3 is oversubscribed, no 'excess visas' are available for oversubscribed countries. (But we had this discussion before, though).

Can we rope in organizations like those mentioned in the subject line for our cause?
Single most important reason I have not bought a house yet is that I do not have a GC and thus can be kicked out anytime. Most of my savings have been invested in Real Estate in India not because I think investment there is more profitable but because I do not have confidence that I will get GC here for sure. All of my friends who own a house waited till they got GC and those who do not own one, are those waiting for GC. In short, more GCs to Desis generally would mean increased housing demand, at least that is what the initial look at numbers indicate. Thoughts?

We can make it at 9:00 if it helps our friends from West coast.
Sounds reasonable. Newbie2020 and others, does 9:00 PM EST sound ok to you guys ? We can cut down the call to about 45 mins to enable early risers to get to bed.

Dear friends, as I read all of your stories, I cannot help but relate it to mine. Even as I write this though, I am in the middle of a dilemma - I am being offered a promotion to a Director position and I cannot decide whether to accept it or not.
I have been in the US for over eight years on an H1 and have been working for a Fortune 20 firm as a Manager for the last four. My company applied for my Labor Cert back in Dec 2002 and while it cleared State in May 2003, the application was stuck in Federal processing for more than a year. Just as it seemed like they were getting to applications that had been transferred in during May 2003, the BEC took over and I literally felt like the rug had been pulled from under my feet! It's been almost two years since then, but I have seen no progress at all - zero, nada, zilch!
Meanwhile, I have been working hard at my company sorting my way through leadership changes, reorgs and changes in vision and strategy. While all of my colleagues and friends were applying to new positions and getting promoted, I lay low. Four years in the same job - I can tell you that is a looooong time! It isn't just that work starts to become a drag but also life itself seems to be in limbo and the frustration of the wait starts to spill over into personal life.
I got married two years ago and my wife, bless her heart, has been making a valiant effort to keep busy and pursue other interests, since she is on H-4. However, I know she can't wait to start working.
As all of you know, it takes a lot to succeed in the US economy and be recognized, but I have worked hard. Not only have I paid taxes for 8 years, but I also feel like I have paid my dues. I have an MBA from a top b-school and skills that are in demand. I cannot help but wonder, whether we are meant to waste our lives away?? You start feeling like a second-class human. I know I can always go back to my home country but I have invested a lot of my life here. We need justice!

First of all, It is funny that the guy who knowingly broke the law want help of law when he is victim. Now all of us know why laws are made in first place and why everyone should follow it.
Secondly, Beating the dead horse again, Thunderbolt should go to cops and give evidence of child abuse asap.
In terms of risking the case of hiring illegal for a job by going to the cops in my mind is a non issue. Because, he is exposed to that risk with or without going to cops himself. What if Nanny gets caught working illegal in some other home and she gives all names she worked for including thunderbolt. He has done a mistake and he should hire best attorney to plead that case if it ever comes up either by him reporting child abuse or some other way.

I certainly expected a better articulated reply than a brilliant one-liner.
OK. I missed your inline comments. so here we go:
So why bring it up at all? l have lived in Texas in hispanic majority communities. I havent met any who want california or texas to be a part of mexico. If we start bringing history into it, then the only people who should be here are the native americans.
Like I said, I am not suggesting CA/TX should be brought back into Mexico. All the Hispanic bashing that happens day-in day-out in the media should be aware of history. I brought it up to show a different perspective.
Immigration to the US is a privilege, not a right.
Agreed. How you implement the spirit of the law is what we are discussing here.
You insist on making it sound more complex than it is. It really isnt. Whats right is right and whats wrong is wrong.
I sincerely hope you are young and when you get ten years older you may see other shades in life. I simply do not understand how you do not see as to how that man thinks about people (see my earlier post) and goes ahead and treats them the way he does.
I am not condoning the 'illegal' act of the person but how she was treated especially when this guy has a certain mindset.
This is propaganda. In this country no one can get away with doing what you claim he does.
Check out the links I posted and there is always google. And there are close to 2700 lawsuits against the Sheriff. His day due in court is not very far away.
