04/10/2007: USCIS Updates 2008 H-1B Cap Status as of 04/09/2007 - Surprise, Surprise, and Surprise!!!
Somewhat very good news. It turns out the total FY 2008 H-1B cap cases which they received are not 150,000 nor 133,000. The total number is 119,193. Accordingly the odds of winning in the lottery will be only 2:1.
For U.S. advanced or higher degree cases, they only received 12,989 and the H-1B for these people is still wide open and they can file the petition now.

Let me add my observations here:
For people who doubt where all the money is going, remember Aman founded this organization putting his own money into this ( not in hundreds but thousands). He and some other core members has already got their green cards, but they continue to work for this cause. I also remember Aman and core members saying this "It is not about you. It is about the community. You just don't think about yourself, you work for everyone." Most of the talk points for meetings were meant for relief to the entire community, not a specific group.
For me, I had to go for a meeting alone. Initially I was disappointed, but I could handle that meeting very well, thanks to IVs training session. For those who are apprehensive about attending these meetings -- It is pretty straightforward if we follow IVs talking points and presentation style. We cover ourselves well with arguments and counter arguments during training session.
As for meeting lawmakers, it will always be a pleasant experience. This is the greatest democracy on the face of the earth. Lawmakers will lend a patient, listening ears to your issues. No worries there. Also fixes to our issues will benefit not only us, it will help this country in the long run. If you haven't met your lawmaker yet, please plan meeting them and let them know your pains. A meeting from a constituent is very valuable for these lawmakers.
A request to IV core:
It is better if IV could conduct the training in different state chapters, so that people will feel more confident and less apprehensive in meeting their lawmakers.

Kinda agree on the lack of momentum. One indicator being that IV hasn't been "In the news" since Sept 11 2007......a year back!!... This is from the IV website.

We have known Rosa Park personally and she was a speaker at one of our meetings and let me tell you none of you are close to what she was.
It looks like you are planning to go to DC. There is big difference between planning and execution. You folks are theoritical and not practical. This time the bus will be empty. You just don't have it in you. Take it from me.
BTW it's Parks not Park. Of course she was a great lady. If any one of us are close to her, no one really knows. Not ever you. Maybe we will get a "Rosa Parks" in this rally. If that happens you will write:

Wanted to find out about the visa options for my wife�she will be coming to the US on an H4 visa�can a company hire her on an L1 or any other kind of visa or does she have to wait for an H1B until the next year quota opens up�She has an MBA Finance degree from Mumbai university & currently working with a multinational bank as a credit analyst�Kindly Respond.
She can get on F1 visa (student) with a full scholarship (since she has an MBA it could be possible) or get an assistantship (that could pay around 2000$ a month depending on where you stay).

What I need to do now? My I-94 has wrong expiration date (I entered in US on 03/07/2007 and I got I-94 with expiration date as 01/10/2007). My attorney told me that it can be explained later. So, I've already file my 485 with a bad I-94.
Please let me know if anything can be done or still I can do something to correct this issue.

Well, There are many people still waiting for GC with original labor and not substitute labor with PD 2003 or prior to that. I'm not saying Sub Labor is the only reason, but it is one of the reason. Even though they are few...the impact is big... With 7% per country limit and visa numbers looks like would not spill over to EB3 due to demand in EB2 and other categories, even very few (say 3000 - 6000 labor sub applications) could consume a year or 2 years worth of visa numbers for this category for retro countries.... Even each family member (dependent) would consume a visa... with atleat 2 visa per applicant, 3000 - 5000 total EB3 labor sub could easily consume 2 years quote... if you count all.. then the "U" in VB might make sense... For EB3 ROW, there are lotz of people from Canada, S. Korea, Thailand, Australia, UK etc, and it went 'U' from 2003... The dates could move well for ROW... but for retrogressed country, I do not see the bright side yet.... Also the 485 PD was current for all categories almost all of 2003 & 2004 till Dec 31 2004, It retrogressed starting from Jan 2005 and later.... Also, the total 140,000 is for all EB categories. The 3000 - 5000 is just a conservative realistic guess.. not based on any data. Do the Math !!! You might agree !!!
Even if you assume there are 3000-5000 labor subs that chocks up the queue, it might have benefited the ones with a 2003 PD like yourself. But for others (beyond 2003) , it is not much of a help. A visa recapture would benefit the community at large.

Do you know why all arguments against F1 to GC are moot? It's because US does NOT view it as misuse. They are talking about not letting the students go, and stapling GC's to certificates. Do you think there will be any result from fighting that sentiment?
